What customers say?

“ Pua Mbili = maybe paradise! We had lunch courses and beers at Pua Mbili. This was brilliant. The seafood is fresh, tasty and cheap. Less than half the price of our nearby hotel and probably the best overall meal we have had in Zanzibar. If you want a taste of a local beach meal this is the place to visit. The view was incredible. We watched the tide come in slowly with peace and quiet sat on the beach. There are a few tables, but one table in particular is perfect, it faces the sea and it is as close to paradise as you can get. Leila was also very friendly and helpful, she told us some interesting stories and made us laugh a lot. Chakula ni kitamoo! We will be back! Fiona & Shrek x Please note: this is a brilliant place but it is a local restaurant and the bathroom facilities are very basic... ”

“ We had lunch here twice during our stay in Matemwe, and the food was absolutely delicious both times. The fish was extremely fresh and the octopus couldn’t have been better. You just have to look past the simple appearance of the place, don’t let it stop you from coming in! The welcome is warm and friendly, and the quality of the food is unbeatable for such small prices. A real hidden gem on the beach. ”

“ A Rare Gem in a Sea of Resorts!!! If you are looking for an authentic soul in a long line of corporate hotels, Pua Mbili is the ultimate breath of fresh air. It is a rare find—the only family-owned, local restaurant on this stretch of beach—and it offers an experience you simply won't get at the neighboring resorts. Why It’s Special: • True "Boat-to-Table": The food isn’t just fresh; it’s delivered every single morning by a local fisherman. You are eating the literal catch of the day, prepared with family recipes. • The Heart of the House: A special mention must go to the owner, Leila. Her attention to detail and warm service make you feel like a guest in her home rather than just a customer at a table. • Authentic Local Vibes: This is the place to sit back and enjoy true local flavors in a setting that feels honest and grounded. A Note on the "Wait Time": I’ve seen some complaints regarding the timing, but honestly? Ignore them. This is a small, real kitchen, not a fast-food assembly line. Because every dish is prepared fresh to order, it takes a "normal" and reasonable amount of time to cook. If you want a meal that was frozen and microwaved in five minutes, go elsewhere. If you want a genuine, hand-crafted meal, Pua Mbili is worth every second. Do not hesitate and go for a table! ”
